Year 4 pupils from Westfield Primary School in Cottingham have sent seasonal messages to Humberside Fire and Rescue staff to thank them for keeping the region safe this Christmas.

Five letters were received in the week before Christmas from the 8 year olds who wanted to thank staff for being there around the clock when most of us are at home enjoying turkey, roast potatoes and the odd glass of wine!

The letters have been passed around operational crews and control room staff who will be working over the festive period. Pictured (left to right) are Gemma Bays and Katie Devereux in Control who took time to read the letters in between 999 calls at Fire Service Headqaurters on Summergroves Way in Hull.

The letters from the pupils at Westfield Primary warmed the hearts of all those who read them:

Dear Humside [sic] Fire and Rescue,

My name is Alfie [surname] and I am in year 4 at Westfield Primary School.

I would like to thank you for saving people's lives at Christmas.

Thank you for giving up your Christmas to help others. Hope you have a lovely Christmas.

Yours sincerely

Alfie [surname]
