What do you do when your cocker spaniel is stuck on a slippery ledge 40 feet up a wooded quarry?

That is exactly what Kelly Vize asked yesterday when Geordie found himself stuck up a sheer cliff face in Humber Bridge Country Park. The answer came from a fellow dog-walker who told her that firefighters would have to be called.

Two crews arrived quickly from Calvert Lane and carried out a rope rescue by abseiling down from the top of the cliff to pick up the frightened spaniel and then bring him safely to ground to be reunited with a grateful owner.

Who said firefighters just put out fires?
