Cats up trees is a bit of a myth! The truth is that firefighters are trained to deal with all creatures great and small!

Scunthorpe Red Watch attended a call this morning to help a roe deer near Keadby Bridge whose head was stuck in metal railings. The crew used hydraulic spreaders to part the railings and safely release the ‘frightened fawn’.

FF Mathew ‘Smudge’ Smith calmed the animal who had suffered only minor abrasions to its neck. The crew then took it well away from the busy A18 and released it to the safety of nearby field.

Horses in ditches, dogs up cliffs and now deer in railings – today’s firefighters are ready for anything!
