Crews from Humberside Fire and Rescue Service were called to an incident earlier today at British Steel in Scunthorpe. A statement has now been released to the media.

A British Steel spokesperson said:

“Emergency services were called to our Scunthorpe site following a fire at the Appleby Coke Ovens at around 12.50pm today. Everyone working in the area at the time of the incident has been accounted for. There are no reported injuries.

Our on-site emergency teams, supported by Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, worked together to rapidly and successfully bring the incident under control.

A full investigation is underway into the cause of the incident.”
