Half marathon – tough. Half marathon in full fire kit – tougher. Half marathon in full fire kit with BA set – borderline madness!

Billy Walmsley, a firefighter at East Hull, is taking on the Humber Bridge Half Marathon on Sunday 28 June. He has already completed it seven times, so thought he would make it a bit more difficult in a bid to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity and Dove House Hospice.

Billy will not only be wearing his full firefighting kit (including boots and helmet), but will cover the 13.1 mile loop wearing a full Breathing Apparatus set and using the air from the cylinder he’ll be carrying. Billy will need to change cylinders a few times on the way round though!! None of the kit is modified in any way and once the race is done he will be using it again for normal duties.

He is in full training now for the challenge and, unlike most of the runners and spectators, is hoping for a cold overcast day!

Give him a wave on the day – you won’t be able to miss him!

You can visit Billy’s Facebook page for more details or his fundraising page.
