Hydrants
Poor or inconsiderate parking can cause serious problems for appliances attending incidents, and may result in vital time being lost before firefighters can carrying out rescues and fighting fires.
Humberside Fire and Rescue Service would like drivers to observe the following common-sense points to ensure that fire crews can get to emergencies as quickly and safely as possible.
- Do not park on or next to a fire hydrant. Firefighters may need to use water hydrants in the event of a fire and, if necessary, will forcibly move any vehicle blocking access.
- Do not park in an area where it would obstruct any recognised fire exit from a building. It is an offence to obstruct a fire exit from a building. Occupants may need to use the exit in the event of a fire.
- Do not park in an area designated as an emergency access route. Again this is a criminal offence to do so.
- Do not park in front of a removable barrier to a designated access route. Blocking an access route may hinder the arrival of any emergency vehicle to the scene of an incident and could cost lives.
- Do not park in such a way that reduces the access width of a road, effectively creating an obstruction for any emergency service vehicle. Blocking a road may again result in delays for emergency crews and also lives.
