Promotion Opportunities

In the Humberside Fire & Rescue Service there are real promotion prospects. To progress, you will need to develop your skills and demonstrate a level of competency in your current role before taking part in an assessment centre and interview process to determine your suitability for the next role.

Any skills gained from qualifications or experience you bring into the Fire Service may be relevant when you are working towards promotion or looking to move into a specialist role.

Annual Leave

You will get up to 30 days paid annual leave in each calendar year, subject to the exigencies of the Service.

Pension - New Firefighters’ Pension Scheme (NFPS)

The pension scheme is an excellent benefit to the salary that you will achieve. You will contribute 8.5% of your salary per month into the final salaried pension scheme.

Salary

The current salary for a newly appointed Firefighter is £20,896 rising to £21,766 during development and £27,851 when competent.

Maternity/Paternity Leave

Maternity - Employees expecting a child, irrespective of their length of service, are guaranteed a job on their return to work. Paternity - You must have been continuously employed for at least 26 weeks before the expected week of childbirth.

Occupational Health

The physical, mental and emotional well being of all fire service employees is paramount to enable a first class emergency service to be provided to the community.

The Occupational Health Section offers a friendly confidential service for all employees. We have a qualified Occupational Health Advisor, a Fitness Adviser, and qualified administrators who work in the occupational health arena. Their aim is to promote and maintain the physical, mental and emotional well being of our people. The range of services available include: occupational health advice, pre employment and periodic health review appointments, fitness advice, employee discount schemes and physiotherapy.

Firefighter Vacancies

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service are not currently recruiting Wholetime Firefighters.
However, there are Firefighter vacancies at all of our Retained Duty System Fire Stations except Cleethorpes.
