Positive action taster days
Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is committed to employing a workforce that is representative of the diverse community that we serve.
With this in mind, we are hosting a number of positive action taster sessions to give individuals from groups currently under-represented within our workforce, an insight into a potential career as a firefighter. We want to actively encourage interest amongst these under-represented groups, namely women and those from black and minority ethnic backgrounds (BME), to take part in the positive action activities prior to recruiting for full-time firefighters.
Our taster sessions
Within our Service, we have significant under-representation of women and people from BME backgrounds among our firefighters and all taster sessions, except Saturday 18 February and Saturday 4 March 2017, are only open to these under-represented groups.
A session lasts for two hours and must be booked on-line using the link in the table below.
Please note due to their popularity there is a limit of one session per person.

Taster sessions on Saturday 18 February and Saturday 4 March 2017 are open to everyone and are run on a first come first served basis.
Each session will give an overview of the role of a firefighter, you will not be under assessment and you will have a chance to participate in practical tasks and wear fire kit, which will be provided. The session also gives an idea of the fitness levels required and will provide information about the recruitment process. Further details of the firefighter selection tests can be found here.

Positive action does not guarantee that anyone from an under-represented group will gain employment.
Humberside Fire and Rescue Service recruits on merit and encourages applications for vacancies from all sections of the community.
